Great evening yesterday for me at the Newmarket July Course with two winners.
I was really impressed with 'Mountain Hiker'. He is related to the top stayer 'Darley Sun' who I have also won on. This horse is sure to come on again and be even better at 1m 6f and maybe 2m.

I was delighted to ride my first winner today since my injury. Hopefully many more winners will follow.
I think Mark Tompkins horses have now turned the corner and he is definitely the trainer to watch in the very near future.

Back In The Saddle.

I was pleased to get back in the saddle yesterday and I felt good but would have to admit that I will have to come on for my race fitness.
I am currently travelling up to Haydock today, unfortunately M Tompkins' horse does not run.
Hopefully I can ride my first winner back on the G Oldroyd horse 'Chosen Forever'. He looks to have a great chance after running well in a better race at York.

I am currently in Barbados recuperating from my injury, which is progressing well.
I hope to be back racing in 3 weeks and make up for lost time.

I am out of action now for 3-4 weeks after my fall at Beverley on 'Misty Morn' in the Hilary Needler Trophy on Wednesday night left me with a fractured collarbone.

I would like to thank everyone at the Hull Royal Infirmary for all their help and for all your kind get well messages.

Double at Haydock Park

Had a double at Haydock Park yesterday on 'Prime Defender' & 'Ahlawy'

Great to ride a winner for my former boss Barry Hills,
When things drop right for 'Prime Defender' he certainly is a talented horse.
He is due to make a quick reappearance at the Dante meeting at York on Wednesday.

'Ahlawy' was a big price winner at odds of 10/1, he is not the most easiest to win with as he is handicapped on a high mark.
It was my first ride for Frank Sheridan so hopefully I will ride more winners for this shrewd trainer.

Off to Brighton tomorrow for 4 rides,
Looking forward to riding 'Goose Green.'

It was a fantastic result to win 'The Chester Vase' on the Mark Tompkins trained 'Ted Spread'

He really did show guts to post his first group race victory.

He is such a likeable sort and I was very proud to ride him at my favourite track today.

Fanunlater

I was very pleased with 'Fanunlater', the horse I rode to win the listed race on at doncaster.
He is a very nice horse who I have always thought a lot of after winning on him first time out at kempton.
We have always known he is a good horse but he's not always delivered.
But he put that behind him with a smooth success to gain black type.

I am sure he can go on from here to group race victory and who knows he might one day improve to win a group one like his father - Falbrav - did.

My Congratulations go to Tony McCoy for finally breaking his duck in
The Grand National, on his 15th attempt. He is a true ambassador for the sport.

Easter

This is always a frustrating time of year for all jockeys as there is a big
build up to the flat season with the Dubai World Cup and the
Lincoln Handicap on the same day, and then it drops off straight away
with poor racing at all weather meetings & racing in Scotland with very
few entries. The exception was Saturday at Kempton.

I decided to take a few days off for Easter and
spend some quality time with my family whilst I have the chance.

I am riding next at Lingfield on Wednesday.

The Winter Derby, Lingfield

Had a great week all in all,
Started yesterday at Wolverhampton with three evening races.
Then today, I was runner up on 'Suits Me' in the 'Winter Derby Group 3 race' at Lingfield.

It was a nice way to end the week.

The nights are getting shorter and the weather's finally turning for the better (fingers crossed),and before we know it we'll be well into the flat racing for 2010.

Lets hope its a good year for everyone!
